Pesaleidjad (nest finders) – who we are and what we do

Pesaleidja is a non-profit association that was established in the spring of 2009. Our main goal is to help homeless and mistreated pets, especially cats.

After rescuing cats from a difficult life on the street we host them in hospices on a temporary basis. During this hosting period we find out whether they have any health or personality issues, and also collect information on their level of socialization and character. The cats are well cared for until permanent homes are found for them. We also actively disseminate information on positive animal treatment and protection principles.

All members of Pesaleidja are volunteers who have experience with assisting homeless animals, either as individuals or by working within other organizations. Our carers donate their spare time around other commitments. Pesaleidja is a non-profit organization; all funds are used for direct and sole benefit of animals in need.

In our hospices each cat receives medical care and anti-parasitic treatment. Before a cat is placed in a permanent home we also take care of vaccination, chipping (for identification purposes) and - if the cat is old enough - castration/sterilization. The cat's new carer will be informed about their pet's health condition, character and any potential special needs.

Taking care of a pet is a big responsibility, and making the decision to do this must be considered carefully. We discourage people from taking in a pet on impulse, or without thinking about whether they can provide a caring and suitable environment. If you think you would like to adopt a cat from us, please fill out our questionnaire - you can find it here.

All cats are different! Some prefer to be indoors, others outdoors. Some catch mice, while some prefer to decorate the sofa. Fitting in with children and other pets can be easy for some cats, or very difficult for others. All of these issues are important, and must be considered and discussed with the new carer. We proceed from the principle that there is the right cat for every home and the right home for every cat.

Most of the cats who are advertised on our homepage are already in temporary care, however there are many splendid and beautiful cats who still live on the street, waiting for their chance to be taken in to a hospice or – even better – to permanent homes. To help these unfortunate cats we need additional hospices, as well as money for medical treatment, food and placement-finding activities. If you would like to help in some way, whether it be hosting a cat or to adopt a cat permanently, please contact pesaleidja@gmail.com or call +372 5622 7409.

You can also support our cause by donating. We gratefully receive donations to Pesaleidja via bank account 10220102365016 (IBAN EE061010220101365016, SWIFT EEUHEE2X) in SEB Bank. Please complete the reference information field with the name of a cat, or the text “donation for saving pets”.
